Pros and Cons of MTEN Pickleball Paddles

Pros

  • The biggest advantage of this paddle is its low price. At below $40, MTEN has provided 2 paddles, 4 balls, and a carry bag.
  • Outstanding performance paddle for beginners
  • Ergonomics: MTEN pickleball paddle is designed to make it more comfortable and easy to hold.
  • Value For Money: Obviously! If a below $40 paddle set performs well and is comfortable, it’s a no-brainer.

But this paddle is not for everyone. As each paddle has some disadvantages, this paddle has too!

Cons

  • Not built for intermediate players: This paddle is great for players just starting with Pickleball. If you have been playing pickleball for over a year, you may not enjoy it.

Power

The weight of the MTEN pickleball paddle I used was 7.9 oz. It gave me decent power, enough for strategic gameplay.

The power is less than beginner paddles like Onix Z5 and Head Radical Elite. However, these paddles cost above $70, and at $20, the MTEN paddle has done a decent job.

In this price range, MTEN seems to be the most powerful paddle. It has little more power than its competitors like JoncAye and GARYE.

I will give its power a 6.8/10. The 7.8” widebody is helpful to get a decent sweet spot. With enough practice, you can easily play shots like overhead, dinks, lobs, serves, and returns with good accuracy using MTEN paddles.

But again a reminder… This paddle is specially built for new players. So if you are an experienced player and looking for a paddle to take your game to the next level, you may need to hunt for a different paddle.

Spin

One improvement I would like to see in the MTEN paddle is additional spin. New players will not be disappointed with its spin, as it has a little textured surface.

But if you expect an amazing spin from this low-budget paddle, you will not find it helpful.

For spin, I will give 6 out of 10. At this price, all paddles will not have enough spin, as working out on the textured surface and implementing advanced technologies in the paddle material increases the manufacturing cost.

But as a beginner, you will get enough spin from MTEN pickleball paddles.

Control

Playing a good strategic game requires hitting shots where we want them to go.

MTEN is one of the best entry-level paddles with a good mix of power and control. I will give the control of this paddle 7 out of 10.

So yes, beginners will have no problem with the control. But obviously, they will have to practice the various shots consistently to gain control of their game.

The paddle has a nice touch because of the slightly textured fiberglass face.

Also, a no-slip grip helps you play shots more accurately and consistently.

A 4.88” handle is insufficient for large-hand people to play two-handed shots. However, as a beginner, many players don’t need to focus on the two-handed shots. In the first 6 months, new players should practice the basics of the game.

But if you still want a paddle with a long handle, then you can check the Uteeqe pickleball paddle. It has a 5” long handle.

Durability

The fiberglass material used in this paddle is decent. With careful use, this paddle can last for at least 3 months.

One good thing is MTEN paddle comes with an edge guard which makes it more durable. The edge guard also reduces scratches and dents.

Even if your MTEN paddle lasts three months, it will be affordable at less than $20 per paddle.

Considering the price and lifespan of this paddle, I will give it 8.5 out of 10.

Conclusion

For new players, the MTEN pickleball paddles set is the best option. It comes with all the essential things you need to start your pickleball journey.

It includes either 2 paddles or 4 paddles along with 4 pickleball balls, a carry bag, and grip tapes. Balls are not good enough, so you might need to get new pickleball balls. However, the paddles, carry bag, and grip tapes are extremely good in quality.

A new player will be able to get the most out of these MTEN paddles. They have good power and control, and decent spin to enjoy the game.

2 paddles set is priced around $40. After using this set for a month, I can confidently say that the MTEN pickleball paddles set is worth each penny.

In addition, it is an excellent pickleball gift you can give to your loved ones.
